Inspectors are to visit the homes of the elderly to check that care workers are treating them with dignity

The Care Quality Commission watchdog is concerned that the care provided by some private agencies is so appalling it is breaching vulnerable pensioners’ basic human rights.

From April, it will carry out detailed inspections of 250 firms who provide care for elderly residents.
